So, to make a cocktail. Interesting one because there are a heck of a lot of cocktails out there.

But I was thinking to myself, not too many savoury ones. And recently, I have become a tad partial to a Bloody Mary. Maybe this a line I could go down.

The Huffington Post has a good little article of other cocktails to take inspiration from. As interesting as they sound, I don’t think they are exactly the kinds of flavours I am looking for.

So, we headed for a derivative of the Bloody Mary classic…

  1. Mix 2 parts vodka, 5 parts vegetable juice (I went with V8), Angostura bitterscinnamon and nutmeg in a shaker with ice.
  2. Pour into martini glass
  3. Garnish with finely chopped cloves, a slice of bread or a chicory leaf (as you fancy)

And there we have it.

Not something I would drink everyday but it kind of creates some kind of alcoholic soup. Now, this is an interesting prospect. Alcoholic soups! Surely this is the way forward for freezing cold winter nights. Settling down with a whisky-enhanced vichyssoise does sound a bit disgusting but very warming. But dipping the bread into the concoction or using a chicory leaf as a spoon are awesome little additions that I suggest to any cocktail club out there.

But the alcosoup is defo something to explore in the future… watch this space.
