Teaching somebody something. Quite vague this one.

Originally I was thinking I would end up teaching someone to juggle as this is relatively common occurance.

But this doesn’t really do too much good. Yeah it will offer mild exercise and balance training for the performer and mild entertainment for the audience, but it’s not exactly expanding people’s knowledge.

Then, a technological development happened at my parents household.

I like to think of these events as volcanoes. A new gadget pops through the letterbox like magma and gases from a vent. The resulting pyroclastics flow around the home for weeks as we struggle to fully harness the potential of this new toy.

A recent eruption has occurred. My father has purchased the Samsung Galaxy SIII. I will try my best to minimise the losses from this event.

To be honest, the machine is a marvellous thing. It’s quick to set up ans easy to get the hang of. But I thought I show Dad a few of the basics to get him going.

These have been things like, moving apps around, turning off data, how to take screen shots. Anything I think he would appreciate understanding.

This knowledge transfer rarely took place in a timetabled environment. Mostly, just on the train to work. This 10 minute segment of the day usually worked out perfectly.

One notable let down has been that I couldn’t and remain unable to set up his email account. As it is not gmail, I am quite foreign to rhe proceedings. And he still cannot work out how to send items. Any ideas on a postcard to the usual address please.

But I hope that I have made some inroads into making his life a tad easier.
